Kibithu is a circle headquarters. District information places it around 1,305 metres above sea level and about 87 km north-east of Hawai, on the West bank of the Lohit river.
Kibithu earns its place in India's story, but day to day it lives in quieter, sturdier ways. This is the road-head where the highway finally gives way to the mountains; the services point with the school, the clinic and the market that the whole upper Lohit valley leans on. On 7 April 2023, Kibithu was chosen to flag off India's Vibrant Villages Programme — bringing paved roads, power, telecom, homestays and fresh livelihoods. A remote outpost has become a model of frontier renewal, and the upbeat heart of the region's revival.
